Welcome to the NCSU BackTrackers own little corner of the internet. I think it's only fitting that we'll use a slightly dated medium of communication (albeit with plenty of bells and whistles,) for our non-traditional student organization. For those who haven't yet please register a username and password to use in this forum via the registration link in the upper right corner of the screen. It's a fairly simple process and will allow you full access to all of the threads and subforum categories to be found here.
After registering, simply click the "profile" button in the menu at the upper left, followed by the "edit profile" button on the right of the next page to reach your user settings. Here you can upload an avatar to be used in the forum (or utilize one of those provided,) alter privacy and forum settings, as well as change your password at any time. I highly suggest changing your "Display Name" and "Signature" under the personal tab to make it easier for all users to keep track of one another. Setting your "Display Name" will replace the username you signed up and log-in with to whatever name you choose on all of your posts both in the forum and in the shoutbox. For the sake of convenience, setting your display name to your actual name will make things simple for all parties involved. The "Signature" is a message that will automatically go at the bottom of anything you post in the forums (but not in the shoutbox.) Feel free to add a personal touch to your messages, quotations, proverbs, personal sayings and musings are all common choices here. Please include your NCSU Department or program and your campus e-mail address for easy reference in case someone has the desire to reach you through e-mail and/or google. As an example, you will see that my signature below includes my name, program, and campus e-mail address.
The shoutbox can be found at the bottom of each page on the forum and is a live chat room for all visitors of the page to share messages, keep in touch, or discuss something. Please keep in mind that these messages are visible to all and will remain in the window for quite some time, allowing others to catch up on what has been said while they were away, or to get up to speed before joining an ongoing conversation. If you are logged in the shoutbox will automatically use your display name for all messages you send, however if you haven't logged in, you can set a "shout as" name before hitting send to identify yourself as something other than "Guest."
This forum is currently hosted for free and is subsequently supported by the occasional banner advertisement. To decrease or eliminate their appearance on these pages I recommend using a simple browser plug-in such as AdBlockPlus to mitigate the number of trash and filler advertisements you see both here and anywhere else online. It is available for free: here.
